桜 Sakura

Sakura season started so early this year.
But as I'm still recovering from my illness, I can't go to those famous sakura spots. (T_T)

So instead, I'm exploring sakura in my neighborhood.
Though we don't notice them when they are not in bloom, we have sakura everywhere.

This is sakura in the nearby park.  It is the most common kind, Somei Yoshino.

Somei Yoshino is a hybrid variety made in the end of Edo period by a group of  gardeners in Somei Village (Komagome, Toshima ward in Tokyo today).
It became so popular that when we say sakura, we are usually referring to this kind.

But sakura has so many variety.
It is said there are more than 400, or some say 600, kinds of sakura in Japan.
Let me show you different kinds of sakura I found in my neighborhood.

This one stands in a vacant lot not so far from my house.

I like its color.

I also like the purple carpet underneath.
Hana-daikon

This one belongs to a farm house.

This belongs to a shrine near my house.

This is a weeping sakura.

Did you find any favorite sakura? (^^)

Oh my goodness! There's hana-daikon! See what happens when I miss one of your posts? I don't get access to Absolutely Vital Information! Stupid Ru! (>_<)

(I'm preparing for a new semester at university, so I've been a bit busy. Is that a very bad excuse?)

My favourite cherry blossom? Probably kanzan and fugenzo. I like the blossoms with many petals. :)

I hope you'll recover 100% very soon.

Rurosha,
Thank you for your kind comment.
I'm almost 100 % 元気.(^_^)v

Your favorite is kanzan and fugenzo? You are the sakura expert! This ignorant had to check them on the net to see how they look.
Yes, they ARE pretty.

I haven’t stopped by for a while so I was unhappy to read about your recent hospitalization. You have one more cheerleader here on the sidelines rooting for your quick and full recovery.

My unhappiness has nearly been balanced out now by the happiness I feel at looking at your photos. I think I like the weeping cherry trees. The first one I saw was on the ICU campus. In fact, this might be the same one but it is difficult to tell from the bottom (of two) photos (clickable to enlarge).

Tall Gary,
Thank you for your kind words. I think I'm now fully recovered. I'm going to start my Hiroshige walk again soon. \(^o^)/

I like weeping cherry trees, too. The one on the ICU campus looks very beautiful.
