Kyoto Ponto-cho

I was in Kyoto last week.
Kyoto is known for its hot summer and cold winter.

But I didn't expect 37.00℃! (+o+)

The Kamo River was dazzling in the daytime.

But it looks different when the sun sets.

During summer (between June and September) restaurants along the river (about 90 of them) provide outdoor riverside dining on their wooden patios.    It is called Kawayuka.

To enjoy Kawayuka dinner, we went to Ponto-cho.
Ponto-cho is one of  the five entertainment districts in Kyoto.
(They are Gion, Miyagawa-cho, Kami-shichiken, Gion-higashi, and Ponto-cho.)
If you are lucky, you might be able to see real Maiko walking along the street.

This is where we had Kawayuka dinner and cold beer.

Food was good.
Wind was cool.
Lit lanterns made our hearts warm and happy.

The bright full moon came up from the edge of the mountain.
It was a wonderful night.

I've been to Kyoto several times, but never in August.

I guess it's so hot because the city is in a valley, and the heat descends like a bad mood? (*´ο`*) It's lovely to sit next to the river at night, though.

This post brought back many good memories. Thanks!

PS: Fushimi! What about Fushimi? Nudge nudge hint hint. :D

Yes, it was so hot, and I was so miserable in the daytime.
I saw several maiko in their daytime wear, yukata, and was amazed at how cool they looked. Very special kind of people.

Fushimi? I was evaporating in Fushimi!! But it was so fun. That will be my next post. (^_-)
